We do not carry out blood tests without prior authorisation from a doctor.

If you have a test carried out at the request of a doctor please contact the Surgery for the results after 1pm.

Results are usually received by the Surgery in the following time frames, although this can vary.

Bloods                 One week (can take up to 6 weeks dependent upon the test)

Cervical cytology  Two weeks

Histology             Two weeks

X-Ray results       Ten days although may be longer if X-Ray Department is busy

MRI results          Two weeks although may be longer if X-Ray Department is busy

Echocardiogram   Typically three weeks but could be up to 8 weeks

Please note that these are estimates as we are reliant on different hospital departments reporting on the results and then sending them to us.  During holiday periods this can sometimes be much longer than usual.

Not all blood tests are processed at Furness General and some need to be sent off to other hospitals which can also cause results to be delayed

Please be aware that if you have any kind of test carried out at the request of a hospital consultant then the Surgery does not usually receive these results.  The requesting consultant should make arrangements for you to be informed of the results
